When fans, both knowledgeable and those new to the game, can see in spades what is wrong with the team...why has it seemed to be so hard for the team to grasp and fix these things on their own? Is it because there is no fix to their troubles?

It is very sad for Betts. They handed down the six game suspension to Brashear earlier this afternoon, but the damage has been done, to him and the team.

And yes, I realize this isn't a sports movie or even a hockey club in the midst of a really great story of their own, but what happened to galvanizing after something like that? What happened to rallying in the face of injustice?

This team proved, yet again, that they are just merely incapable of being leaders or of being fighters. And frankly, it seems, incapable (minus a rare few) of being a good teammate.

In my reading of the quotes from last game, Schoenfeld said that the players don't just need to trust themselves, they need to trust their teammate will be going into the game and playing his best as well.

And there you have, in a nutshell, the problem with this team. I mean Schoenfeld said some things last night a Tom Renney never would have said, but you know what, I appreciate that he had the guts to say it. That some of his players were covering for other of his players, that others had no more left to give, that others were not doing their jobs, etc.

Look, it doesn't change the horrible mess we have here, but it means something to me that he called them out.

The question is, does it mean anything to them?

We'll learn tomorrow.kelshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10263870665506009146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102291454818563145.post-39688692845754527242009-04-27T16:49:00.000-04:002009-04-27T16:49:00.000-04:00Excellent post Kels.
I honestly don't know what ...Excellent post Kels.

I honestly don't know what to say about game 6. My girlfriend is not a hockey fan, but thankfully she is occasionally happy to watch and try to learn. Game 6 was one of those games she decided to watch with me (I think the fact it was a respectable time out here helped). As I have no idea what to say about the game I'll leave my comment in her hands.

"Why do they keep circling the puck back outside like that? The Washington goalie can't catch it. Why doesn't someone stand in front of him?

Why don't they keep the puck in front of him rather then just throwing it back outside?"

Fiona was having trouble finding the appropriate language but, in essence, what she was trying to say was.

Stop sending the puck back to the D men on the point. Shoot the damn thing! Crash the net and pickup the rebounds.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

This was the 5th game of hockey she'd watched in her life and even she could spot this was a problem.

Another fantastic piece of novice wisdom came when she asked why "he" (Dubi) got 14 minutes of penalties while "that thug" (she meant Brashear) only got two minutes?

Sadly I was unable to answer that question. It's the same one I was asking myself.

If I am going to try and comment myself, I think what we saw was the leftovers of game 5. Avery was non existent. Personally I think he was too worried about taking a penalty and facing more bench time to play anything like an effective game.

I am disappointed and genuinely saddened by the fact we did not have the pride to "do it for Bets". If no one was prepared to go down swinging, (Shanny did it, you don't have to beat the thug, you just need to stand up and say enough is enough) then the least they could have done was hold their heads up high. Instead of slouching around like pathetic...

*sigh* I still don't have the words :-(Lukehttp://thebearessentials.netnoreply@blogger.com
